Fall is my favorite.
Here’s how this list would look if it were dedicated to my five favorite things about fall:
- Combines in the fields
- Hooded sweatshirts
- Bonfires
- Harvest moons
- The end of canning season. Woot woot! 😉
Buuuuuuut that’s not very helpful to you. And since my hope in these posts is to share what I’m loving in case it would be helpful to someone else, I’ll move on to sharing my actual five favorites for October. Because I really have discovered a few new things that have made my days brighter this month. So here we go!
#1: Upside Down Podcast
I recently came across The Upside Down podcast and I’m really enjoying it. I love to listen in on these unscripted conversations of faith by Christian women. The focus of the podcast is examining God’s upside down kingdom. The discussion can get really deep at times, which I love because so often it seems that faith related conversations are discussed superficially. There are many women that are involved in this podcast, and each episode is a different mix of them, which keeps it interesting.
I don’t always 100% agree with the perspectives shared, but the discussion is always thought-provoking and I usually have a new thought or scripture that I can take away and apply to my life.
Some of the episodes I’ve listened to so far:
- Parenting: Raising Upside Down Kids (#38)
- The Enneagram: Unscripted Conversations of Spirituality, Culture, and God’s Upside Down Kingdom (#37)
- Downward Mobility: What is it? (#23)
#2: Apples
Every fall I freak out that I won’t be able to get my hands on any apples to can, and each fall I end up with so many apples (thank you for providing them, Lord!) that I run out of time and energy for getting them all used before they go bad.
This winter we’ll be able to enjoy lots of applesauce, apple pie filling, and even some apple peel jelly, thanks to all the apples we’ve received. So thankful to have them, and even more thankful to be done with them. 😉 And thanks to my canning journal, I’m able to easily track what exactly I’ve canned.

#3: hope*writers
I took a big step recently. Registration for hope*writers was open, and I joined.
What is hope*writers, you may ask? It’s a private community for writers, where you can get support and education and direction for taking your writing to the next level.
Listen. I’ve always loved writing. But lately I feel like I need to take it a bit more seriously, hone in on it a bit, maybe actually USE that college degree in writing that I earned (and, may I add, paid BIG bucks for) a while back. Ahem.
When registration for hope*writers opened recently, I just felt like the time was right to join, so I did. The expertise they provide is very thorough, but more importantly, this is the most encouraging community of writers I have EVER encountered. I’m so pleased and excited to be a part of it. I highly recommend it if you’re a writer! Registration won’t be open again until sometime in 2019, but definitely check out their website if you’re curious.
(P.S. And the hope*writers podcast is PHENOMENAL. Check that one out, also!)
#4: Kind Mocha bars
I mean, they’re delicious and my kids aren’t into them, which means they’re all mine. What’s not to love about that?!

#5: Pumpkins and my cheap-o letter board.
Need I say more? 🙂
What did you love in October?
